It's For the Birds

These Christmas decorations look good enough to eat but they are for the birds--hang them on a bough near your window and watch the local cardinals have a feast. They are made of wild birdseeds. Or there is a dried black sunflower seed head; big, round and friendly, and perfect for smaller birds. These are made by a small English company committed to using sustainable natural materials, and reducing its impact on the environment. They use certified lumber and have invested in a major tree-planting scheme to restore a native woodland. The packaging is made from recycled cardboard and they use only water-based paints on their products. For a modernist look, the "Birdball" birdfeeder or house, is a white sculptural sphere that is handmade out of clay and looks like art for the garden. Or for a combination-- the sedum bird box is a house with a roof of sedum succulents that absorb C02 and attract ladybugs and bees. :: Hen and Hammock
