More and more, urban biking has become one of the best ways to see a lot of a city in a short span of time, so it's a no-brainer that more hotels are offering free bikes along with the price of the room. In Copenhagen, tourist biking is easy - just put a 10 Danish kroner coin into the lock and you're off, on a low-slung cruiser bike. Bike sharing is also an option in some cities. But if biking is high on your priority list for inner-city transport, check out these five hotels that offer free loaner bikes as amenities. If you know of others, please, add them in the comments.

1. Liberty Hotel Bike Service (Boston)

This elegant hotel on Charles Street in Beacon Hill in the city of Boston was formerly a 19th-century jail, but you wouldn't really guess that. The Liberty has loads of amenities for its guests, including complimentary Electra bicycles for use seasonally. Electra bikes are sturdy and on the heavy side, possibly a good thing when braving Boston traffic.

2. Bowery Hotel (New York)

The Bowery is within walking distance of lots of cool New York neighborhoods, and has a unique charm with its hardwood floors and floor-to-ceiling windows. The Bowery also offers its guests free use of fire-engine red Earth Cruiser bicycles.

3. Hotel Occidental (San Diego)

The Occidental is not a luxury hotel — rather, it's a cozy stucco "European style" lodging. It's right in downtown San Diego, though, and offers complimentary use of its beach cruiser style bicycles.Perfect, according to the web site, for taking a leisurely ride through Balboa Park just two blocks away.

4. Ace Hotel (Palm Springs)

Everything from the thrift shop sofas to the schoolhouse chairs at the Ace Hotel say retro and funky. That includes the set of baby blue beach cruisers hanging out in the open courtyard. Built upon the skeleton of an old Howard Johnson motel, the Ace is just south of downtown. There's a spa, and a dog trot, but overall this is the place to just laze by the pool in between bike rides. Tandems available, too. The Ace is a small chain of west coast hotels that have included bikes in their amenities list - in Portland it's a cool fleet of Dutch bikes.
