rumpy Cat, the world's "most influential cat of 2012" according to MSNBC, is getting ready to make the leap from popular Internet meme to star of the silver screen.

Deadline is reporting that Todd Garner and Sean Robins of Broken Road Productions are working with Grumpy Cat's rep Al Hassas and manager Ben Lashes (yes, these people are representing a cat) to produce and package a live action film in the spirit of the "Garfield" films. Apparently, this means that Grumpy Cat (real name: Tardar Sauce) will be given the power of speech — which, just like the "Garfield" films, could be awful.

But there's no mistaking the power of this cranky-faced feline, who boasts appearances on nearly every major morning show, news programs, and a weekly reach of more than 2 million on Facebook.

“This started off as a picture of a cat, but rare is an image that evokes that much comedy,” Garner said. “You read all of the memes and the comments, and one is funnier than the next. We think we can build a big family comedy around this character.”

Despite her sour appearance, Tardar Sauce is actually quite healthy — born a mix of calico, Siamese and tabby.

“Many have said that she is a 'dwarf' cat or a 'munchkin,' but she was born from two normal-sized cats,” according to Grumpy Cat’s official Facebook page. “Her back legs are a bit longer than her front legs and she wobbles a bit when she walks.”

While it may be some time before "Grumpy Cat: The Movie" hits theaters, fans can still look forward to other related tie-ins. This week, the cat and her owner will be traveling to New York City to promote the forthcoming Chronicle Books release, "Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book: Disgruntled Tips and Activities Designed to Put a Frown on Your Face" at BookExpo America. According to the Wall Street Journal, a deal has also been struck with Grenade Beverage LLC to create and distribute a line of Grumpy Cat canned coffee and bottled beverages.
