London-based furniture designer and cabinet maker Jona Warbey blends new ideas with old materials, creating simple but unique designs from reclaimed wood. Reusing and recycling provides not only the materials but the inspiration for household interiors, furniture design and commercial spaces. According to his website, hunting around reclamation yards for pieces of furniture to salvage or unusual bits of wood to reuse is now often the starting point for a design or project; as such, much of his work incorporates these reused or reclaimed materials. Kitchen tops are made from Channel Tunnel support beams, poster boards take on a new form in furniture designs and floor joists are reincarnated for a period-style library. For the times when reclaimed or recycled materials aren't available, designs made with new wood come from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approved sources wherever possible. ::Jona Warbey via tipster Hannah.
