Fire and Light creates hand-poured dinnerware from recycled glass bottles and jars. The company was formed in 1995 as a partnership between the Arcata Community Recycling Center in Humboldt County, California, and a group of local investors who wanted to develop a plan for using crushed, recycled glass. The crushed glass is melted in furnaces, pigment is added, and the molten glass is pressed into bowls, plates, and glasses.
Fire and Light is incorporating recycling into new parts of the production process: tumbling broken dishes to make Sea Glass (a product used in aquariums and decorating) and using recycled beer kegs from local microbreweries as vats to cool their ladles.
