Restaurant of the Week: Mare, Boston

In June 2005, Mare (pronounced Mah-Ray which is Italian for "sea") opened its doors in Boston's North End. Not only are we huge fans of the totally hip atmosphere but we are looooving the organic and absolutely delicious coastal Italian menu. Mare has the city's first 98% organic ingredient list and the menu is based almost entirely on deep-water fish, cultivated shellfish and certified organic seafood from the U.S. and Italy. Mare also features hormone-free beef, organic free-range chicken and eggs, organic microgreens and vegetables, whole grain (and homemade) pastas and even sea salt. And we can go on whole grain breads are baked in-house daily, butter and cheese are made from unpasteurized milk, organic heirloom tomatoes are used in sauces and salads, organic fruit is used in tarts and gelati and organic first press olive and flaxseed oils are used on sautéed or fried items.
