Yesterday designboom pointed us to a church converted into a bookstore; today, on a smaller scale, they show a church in the Hague turned into a design office. The firm BBVH converted the worn out structure into offices for the web design firm acato as well as two apartments.
They write in Designboom:
Seeking to create a comfortable and energy efficient environment for the staff, the architects employed insulated walls with a retention gap on the inside and double-glazed windows. the underneath of the floor was filled with a 30cm layer of sea shells for insulation and also humidity regulation – a reference to their former office near the beach.
