If you live in or are visiting Australia, a new iPhone app can make it easier to choose sustainable seafood for your meals.
The free app from the Australian Marine Conservation Society has over 100 types of seafood in its database, including wild-caught, fish farms and imported species. It allows a user to search by a ranking system, showing which species to avoid and which are better choices, or search seafood under various market names. It also provides information on ocean issues that affect seafood, and what to ask before you buy seafood.
This is a great addition to other sustainable seafood tools such as the iPhone app from the Monterey Bay Aquarium (which I have on my phone and use whenever I'm in doubt).
