Energy Independence is Dead And You'll Never Hear "Drill Baby Drill" Again

Oil refinery along the US Gulf Coast.

Remember John McCain, Sara Palin and other Republican leaders shouting "Drill Baby Drill?" Energy independence, national security, blah blah blah. The US Bureau of Census reports that the US' single highest export revenue stream currently comes from petroleum based liquid fuel. US fuel exports are at a 60-year high. Regardless of where the feedstock crude might have come from--Albert Tar Sands; Arctic Wildlife Refuge, or Nigeria--Made In USA liquid fuel products are selling to the highest bidders in Brazil and Asia.

Remember Republican claims that the reason gasoline was bumping four bucks a gallon was that 'job destroying' EPA regulations had limited refinery expansions? Somehow, three years into Obama's first term, there's now enough refining capacity to export increasing amounts of gasoline and diesel (a principal factor behind continued high fuel prices here). It was all about maintaining oil company profits. Always is and always will be.

Whitier Daily News reports that "Measured in dollars, the nation is on pace this year to ship more gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel than any other single export, according to U.S. Census data going back to 1990. It will also be the first year in more than 60 that America has been a net exporter of these fuels."

Energy Independence is Dead And You'll Never Hear "Drill Baby Drill" Again
New data from the US Census Bureau shows that the nations' largest export value commodity is fuel. Energy independence is a dead GOP myth
