I like to use a bread with a high fiber content. Between the fiber in the bread and the protein in the peanut butter, I’m usually quite satisfied until lunch. When Food For Life offered to send me a sample of their new Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Flax Bread, I thought I’d give it a try to see if it was peanut butter worthy. The grains used in this bread can be found in the Bible verse it’s named after. Take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt; put them in a storage jar and use them to make bread for yourself. (NIV) In the Bible, God gave these instructions to Ezekiel. This bread, along with water, was the only thing the prophet was to eat for 390 while he was bearing the sins of Israel upon himself during at time of famine. The bread, obviously, was not party food. It was, however, nutritionally sound enough to sustain a man for over a year while eating it only. So how does this recipe for nutritionally sound bread translate to modern day? With the addition of a few more ingredients, pretty well. Here is what is in the Ezekial 4:9 Sprouted Flax Bread. Organic Sprouted Wheat, Filtered Water, Organic Sprouted Flax, Organic Sprouted Barley, Organic Sprouted Millet, Organic Malted Barley, Organic Sprouted Lentils, Organic Sprouted Soybeans, Organic Sprouted Spelt, Fresh Yeast, Organic Wheat Gluten, Sea Salt. Rolled in Organic Flax Seeds. I like the bread much better toasted than untoasted, it helps to bring out the nutty flavor in all the grains. I really have been enjoying it in the morning with some peanut butter along with a good cup of coffee. I like the nutrition in it, too. Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Flax Bread is 100 percent flourless and free of conditioners, additives, artificial flavors, colors and preservatives. It is also made with filtered water and no added fat and is low-glycemic, diabetic-friendly, pH-balanced and kosher-certified. Each slice of contains 90mg of Omega 3, 5g of protein, 4g of dietary fiber and 18 amino acids from vegetable sources. If you are strictly a white bread eater, this bread would be a huge change in texture and flavor for you. But, if you’re a whole grain bread eater, you may not find the texture and taste of Ezekiel 4:9 bread that big of a change. It’s vegan, kosher, non-GMO, and made from organic ingredients.
