From industrial contamination to civilian litter, a new survey ranks our loathing when it comes to messing up the planet.
Pollution is everywhere. From the air that we breathe to remote island shores, from the water we drink to the sidewalks of our streets – it seems that nowhere is left untouched by the harmful things we unleash into the environment. When one ponders the enormity of it all, it's as daunting as it is infuriating.
We each have our own feelings about which sins of pollution are most repugnant, to be sure. But while every form of polluting is abysmal, we feel more strongly about some than others. According to a survey of 2,000 Americans conducted by SaveOnEnergy, here's how trashing the planet ranks by dirty deed.
So what's the takeaway? For one it's interesting to see where others' concerns are and think about which forms you find most egregious yourself – good dirty food for thought. But what I especially like here (even though like is a strange word to use in this case) is the cataloging of offenses as well as the indirect reminders for accountability and advocacy, like, stand up to polluters, big and small. Unless we're seriously going to pack our bags and head for the moon and beyond, we've only got one planet here, is it really so hard to keep it safe and tidy?
