Antique Drapery Rod Company

The Antique Drapery Rod Company manufactures over 600 types of drapery hardware in recycled wrought iron, reforested carved wood, recyclable cast stone, recycled aluminum and tortoise shell bamboo. We at TreeHugger can't resist such friendly-sounding materials (and one of our favorites: bamboo!) but the hardware and drapery designs haven't caught up with the progressive materials. Not that the design is all bad; it's just a bit more traditional. Classic, even, but not very modern; even the promising sounding "Bauhaus Modern" collection isn't quite up to our standards, but they certainly deserve some credit for trying so hard! Their ready-made draperies in silk Dupioni, linen, and 100% organic cotton velvet are all dyed using approved eco-safe dyes, and their paints are made from 99 percent food-grade materials, making for some healthy indoor breathing. The list goes one: their 150 employees in the U.S. manufacturing facility have helped build their eco-ethical policies. Plus, they have a corporate commitment to alternative labor sources, and support local homeless and battered women’s programs. ::Antique Drapery Rod Company
