Ripple Bench by Toyo Ito

Renowned Japanese architect Toyo Ito redesigned his Ripples bench this year and Horm has put it into production. Last month, it won Italy’s prestigious Compasso D’Oro Award, which recognizes the finest in European industrial design. The bench melds together six different types of wood--white maple, evaporated beech, raw beech, evaporated cherry, walnut, and iroko—and is finished with vegetable oil. The shallow depressions that create the bench’s seats look like the concentric rings of a tree trunk and ripples in the water, a dual and constant reminder of environmental responsibility. €1,750-2,000 ::Horm
