Last week was National Parks Week, and with the launch Ken Burn's new series "The National Parks: America's Best Idea," on PBS, celebrating the great outdoors, it's time to keep the party going. The Sierra Club wants to give you a chance to experience some of the best our national parks system has to offer by giving one lucky contestant a trip to Yosemite (and San Francisco). Here's how:The Sierra Club is holding a Champions for National Parks Campaign, where they are hoping to get 100,000 signatures from people all over stating that they support national parks. There will be a scrolling bar on the Sierra Club site so all signees can see their name on the web, and one of these signers will win the ultimate prize: a trip to Yosemite. One lucky winner will be randomly chosen November 1, where the winner and guest will be flown to San Fran and given a rental car for a 5 day trip. Two nights will be spent in San Francisco and 3 nights will be spent in the Wawona Lodge in Yosemite.
If you want to find out more about parks near you, the Sierra Club would love to help. Now on their site, they have interactive maps featuring 12 of the most "iconic" parks in the US. Plus, they offer tips on the best trails, interview with Ken Burns and beautiful photographs from maps all over the country. At a time when national parks (and local parks) around the country are hurting for funding, they could all use a little green love. :Champions for National Parks Campaign
