Tune in to the Today Show on Monday July 17 to see the finalists for the Brad Pitt/Global Green sponsored New Orleans green building design contest. Three to six finalists from Stage I (proposal development and submittal) will go on to participate in Stage II of the competition when they will work with local architects and community groups to create a plan for a selected areas in different neighborhoods of the city. They will design single-family housing and a community facility in the neighborhood, as well as environmental and community features. A jury (actually two - a technical and a design jury) will select the final winner, but the public is invited to submit votes for the best design project. Jurors are looking for designs that: demonstrate advanced yet achievable solutions for sustainable development and construction of each component of the design challenge; develop innovative, progressive architectural and planning solutions that respect and draw from the rich design heritage of New Orleans; incorporate the latest construction and energy saving technologies; and balance sustainability and affordability in a productive dialogue.
