The creators of the Scrap House might take exception to someone calling their structure a piece of trash, and for good reason. For the backbreaking work that has to be done in order to create and furnish a house out of discarded materials, it is at least appropriate to use the proper terminology - it is many pieces of trash. Using street signs as shingles, phone books as insulation and old doors for floors, the architects, engineers, and artists behind The Scrap House not only create a functional living space out of "junk" (which is a challenge in of itself), they create an eye-catching modern home that looks like it jumped from the pages of Dwell Magazine. Want to find how how they did it? Check out The Scrap House on the National Geographic Channel starting this Monday, September 18th at 10pm.
