Soundwood musical instruments

Soundwood.jpg

Founded a dozen years ago, Soundwood set out to march to the tune of a different drummer. They collaborate "with educators, scientists, the music and timber industries and local communities to develop practical solutions for tree and forest habitat conservation. The program seeks to improve the management of a range of heavily exploited timber species and increase the availability of independently certified wood used to manufacture musical instruments and other wood products." They are part of programs such as the Global Trees Campaign developed jointly by Fauna & Flora International (FFI) and the United Nations Environment Program - World Conservation Monitoring Centre. They also hold a monthly Soundwood Jam, in San Francisco, where musicans play only instruments of certified timber [such as by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)]. That's music to our TH ears. ::Soundwood [by WM]
