Environmental lifestyle consultant Danny Seo and the Kimpton Hotel chain are designing a series of celebrity "eco-suite" hotel rooms dedicated to environmental sustainability. Celebrities are invited to participate in the design of special suites that feature sustainably crafted materials such as organic cotton sheets and furniture made of salvaged materials. The most recent addition is a room at the Hotel Monaco in New Orleans designed with help from Kevin Richardson of the Backstreet Boys. Mr. Richardson, a committed environmental advocate who launched his own environmental organization (the former Just Within Reach Foundation), selected the Natural Resources Defense Council as the recipient of the 10% room rate donation provided by the hotel.Kimpton has a dozen other "eco rooms" at the Hotel Triton in San Francisco, which are all fitted with eco-conscious furniture, water- saving devices and recycling bins. Woody Harrelson, actor Andy Dick and the Red Hot Chili Peppers helped design rooms in the San Francisco hotel. The celebrity suites are part of the hotel chain's Earth Care program.
The program attempts to reduce the ecological footprint of the hotels and includes the following (from the Kimpton website):
Use of organic coffee in all lobby areas
Back of house recycling programs
Use of non-toxic cleaning products
Corporate printing on recycled paper and using soy based ink
Property wide printing on recycled paper and using soy based ink
