The Unclutterer calls them Unitaskers; things that do just one thing and take up space the rest of the time. Mark Bittman says that all you need to cook is "A stove, a sink, a refrigerator, some pots and pans, a knife and some serving spoons, all else is optional."
Of course, Bittman's kitchen is only six feet by seven feet, so he doesn't have a lot of space for EZcrackers. He suggests instead that "size and equipment don't count nearly as much as devotion, passion, common sense and, of course, experience."
