Conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall will deliver the keynote address at WILD9, the 9th World Wilderness Congress (WWC), in Mérida, Yucatán, on the November 6, 2009. In addition to opening the conference, Dr. Goodall, will lead a workshop on Roots & Shoots, The Jane Goodall Institute’s global environmental and humanitarian youth program that has involved 150,000 youth from 110 countries brought together out of a desire to create a better world.

The World Wilderness Congress (WWC) is a public environmental forum that continues to host conservation leaders from around the world. Delegates at this years 7-day conference will hear from President of Conservation International Russell Mittermeier, Economist Pavan Sukhdev and Stephan Harding, an expert on the Gaia theory. Founded in 1977 by The WILD Foundation, the WWC has convened eight times in 30 years, and includes senior-level representation from governments, the private sector, and academia and the arts. The design of the conference is set to encourage debate and generate discussion in a balanced environment on wilderness-related issues. WILD9 delegates will work reach their conservation goals through plenary sessions, workshops, and local excursions in the Yucaton Peninsula. The conference will also host the largest gathering of nature photographers in Latin America and feature photo galleries, photography keynotes and seminars.
