Green Map System is showcasing a decade of eco-cultural mapmaking at its first New York exhibit, "Vibrant Communities: Green Maps of New York and the World." But just what is a green map? They are locally created maps that chart the natural and cultural environment of an area. By illuminating the interconnections between the natural and......designed environments, the maps highlight green living resources, cultivate citizen participation, and collate uncommon information.
At the NYC exhibit, 70 unique locally published Green Maps are on exhibit through November 30 at the Municipal Art Society, 457 Madison Avenue at 51st Street; 11 a.m.-5p.m., Monday-Wednesday and Friday-Saturday. Entrance is free. If you aren’t in the city, check out the Green Map Atlas online, or check out the book ($35-40) or CD-ROM ($15) to see the 264 Green Map projects underway in 43 countries. ::Green Map System ::Green Atlas [by MO]
