Yesterday, Green For All CEO Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins was a guest on MSNBC's Morning Joe, along with Tom Brokaw, Donny Deutsch and host Joe Scarborough. Phaedra, like her predecessor at Green for All, Van Jones, spoke beautifully about the intersection of green progress and economic well-being.
Phaedra also spoke in favor of the House climate bill now moving through Congress. Amazingly, conservative and former Republican House member Scarborough agreed. He said that as we remake our economy we should remake it into green one. All right, Joe!
This is the sort of level-headed discourse rarely seen on TV when green issues are discussed. It wasn't the usual frame of the economy versus the environment, but instead a thoughtful discussion about how progress will benefit both in terms of energy savings, new jobs, and a safe climate. Now if only the Sunday talk shows would follow Morning Joe's example. A LCV study found that the five major Sunday morning political shows asked the presidential candidates well over 2,000 questions in 2007, but only three of the questions mentioned climate change.
