New York TreeHuggers, mark your calendars: the Green Gadgets Conference is coming! Friday, February 1, our pals at Inhabitat along with Marc + Alt Partners will present the one day conference all about the greening of the consumer electronics industry (we mentioned it before). As displayed at CES this year, gadgets and electronics are going to continue to get bigger, faster, and more energy intensive (with a notable exception or two); the conference will bring together industry leaders, entrepreneurs, journalists, and designers to talk about it, and figure out ways to make it all greener.
We think it'll be a really interesting day -- presentations from inventor Natalie Jeremijenko, Mary Lou Jepsen of One Laptop Per Child and digital environmental artist Chris Jordan are just the tip of the iceberg -- and we can help you get there. The conference organizers have graciously offered a 20% discount for TreeHugger's readers for one week, until next Thursday, January 24. Hit the jump to get the code and more details about the conference.Typing "Treehugger20" in the coupon field will get you 20% your ticket, which includes lunch, beverages and refreshments throughout the day, access to the Event Gallery space and a ticket to the post conference cocktail reception. More about the conference: there will be panel discussions on electronics recycling programs and emerging renewable energy sources for cell phones and laptops (like kinetic energy), and the day will finish up with a on-stage presentation and live audience judging of the Greener Gadgets Design Competition with Core77's main man, Allan Chochinov.
Topics to be discussed at the conference include: at the design for sustainability, product life cycle management, take-back and recycling programs, energy efficiency, greener materials, and green lifestyle and product marketing. An attached gallery space will feature a green prototype office display and technology exhibits from companies on the cutting edge of green tech. If this year's CES and MacWorld were any indication, greener gadgets are just about ready to hit the big time; go see the future now at the conference. Remember: New York City, Friday, February 1, discount code Treehugger20 (through next Thursday).
If you are a designer with ideas up your sleeve, be sure to enter the Greener Gadgets Design Competition before the deadline of January 27th. The competition will be giving away $4500 in cash prizes to the most innovative greener gadgets designs, and your work will be displayed at the conference in front of hundreds of journalists from publications ranging from BusinessWeek to CNET to Wired, as well as reps from companies like Philips, Sony, HP & Nokia. It's a great opportunity to get your brilliant ideas out there to the people who matter, and you could win some cold hard cash in the process -- what have you got to lose? Get designing, and good luck! ::Greener Gadgets Conference and ::Greener Gadgets Design Competition
