From the Forums: Why Not a Carless City?

Clutchlove is a bit frustrated:

It is ridiculous that we can't have any pedestrian cities in the US. We could do it in three easy steps:
1. Take all the cars out of the city.
2. Build everything dense and compact.
3. Build with diversity and mixed use.
Now, this wouldn't be the best way to go about it, without any design sense, but I would argue that it would still be better than most of the cities we have. Why can't we just do it?
