I just read an article about an accident caused by a prescribed fire in a forest due to ignored bad weather conditions (strong winds caused fire to spread). The article made prescribed fires sound destructive but I also saw an article online condoning these fires saying that they were good for the environment and necessary to reduce fuel loads. I'm still new to all of this and am having trouble developing an opinion on this subject without all of the facts. Can somebody tell me how any kind of fire is good and what it means to "reduce fuel loads" ?
