The people have spoken and Monet's Poppy Field in Argenteuil turns out to be the most popular piece of art for Mother's Day this year.
An online art gallery has taken a poll of the most popular picture for mom and two million surfers of the net responded with a click for this beautiful field of red poppies. Mother and child pictures were popular but nature won.
In this lovely colourful oil painting which was done in 1873, Monet has painted his wife and son strolling together among the poppies. How sweet is that.

The fifth most popular choice was also a view of nature: Klimt's Tree of Life was another big winner. "The Tree of Life, Stoclet Frieze," was the Austrian painter's last great mural work. The painting is one of a series of three. It has branches reaching into the sky and roots deep into the earth. If you look closely there are birds, leaves, fruits and flowers. Truly a dream present for a parent of a TreeHugger.

Two Sisters (On the Terrace) by Renoir is also a celebration of nature. It is an ode to the beauty of spring and the promise of youth. Called Two Sisters, in fact the two girls depicted in the painting were not sisters but unrelated models. Behind the two young girls is a vibrant spring landscape. Filled with trees, flowers,a lake and clouds in the blue sky, Renoir repeats the floral theme on the girl's hats and the jacket, and the basket at their hands.
