The Center for a New American Dream (see their about us page for more information) has for goal to "help Americans [and others, we assume] to consume responsibly to protect the environment, enhance quality of life, and promote social justice". They are offering a revised version of the excellent booklet titled: "Tips for Parenting in a Commercial Culture". It explains the issues that all kids and adults have to face in our society of "consumers first, citizens second" and gives tips on how to deal with a generation of children that start asking for brands as soon as they can talk. We think it's effective at explaining in a structured ways things that most of us might already be aware of, but don't always know quite how to act positively upon. It is very important to teach children critical thinking skills in regard to publicity and make them realize that happiness does not come from mindlessly buying as much stuff as possible. You can download the booklet in pdf format after a free registration or order a print copy. The website also contain loads of interesting things, we encourage you to have a look.
