Christie's and NBC Universal have announced "Green Auction: A Bid to Save the Earth," a carbon-neutral charity auction benefiting the Central Park Conservancy, Conservation International, Oceana, and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). The inaugural event will coincide with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, featuring celebrity packages, works of art, exotic travel packages, and more: NBCU has plans for environmentally themed coverage during their annual "Earth Week" coverage. They will lend on-air and online media assets "to raise 'green awareness,' promoting environmental messages and 'A Bid to Save the Earth' campaign's call to action." The inaugural auction alone will draw media attention as it will be a start studded event, more below.

The Evening Sale will be a star-studded event with top celebrities serving on the Green Auction Host Committee that includes: Leonardo DiCaprio, Harrison Ford, Tobey Maguire, François-Henri Pinault, Salma Hayek, Bob Fisher, Candice Bergen, Ed Norton, Evelyn Lauder, Alec Baldwin, Zaha Hadid, Brooke Shields, and Matt Lauer.

The live auction will include major works from artists including Keith Tyson, Maya Lin, Subodh Gupta, and Olafur Eliasson.  Other lots will include coveted celebrity experiences, upscale eco-vacations and exquisite jewelry.  Hugh Jackman, Christina Aguilera, and Candice Bergen are just a few of the talented stars offering VIP experiences, with additional luxury items secured daily.

While silent auction items range from spending a day with Hugh Jackman on the set of his movie "Reel Steel' to Christina Aguilera VIP concert tickets, we are raising the bid for falconry lessons with Bobby Kennedy. And to satisfy the sustainably-stylish crowd, Barneys New York and Loomstate have collaborated on a 100% certified organic cotton tee, designed with the NBC peacock feathers in mind. Tees will retail for $40, in honor of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, and a percentage of proceeds will benefit the four non profits through the Green Auction.

If bidding is out of the budget, the public is invited to participate through A Bid to Save the Earth in their call to action: "donate, volunteer, educate, or green your routine." Guests traveling to the event are encouraged to offset travel with Native Energy.

The silent auction powered by Charitybuzz will launch on April 8, and run through May 6. Visit A Bid to Save the Earth, for more.
