2008 Contest Winning Image. Image via: Rainforest Alliance
Seems like these eco-photo/video contests and climate change solution contests are popping up more and more these days. Maybe that improves your odds of winning...maybe. Well, if you have a good eye for photography or just fancy yourself a shutterbug, why not try your luck at the annual Rainforest Alliance "Picture Sustainability" contest. But you have to hurry, the contest ends soon.Between now and November 1st, do you think you could come up with a picture that is worth 1,000 words. What if those words have to do with sustainability and conveying an idea of sustainability? Just trying to put the idea of sustainability to words can be challenging because the concept seems to touch on every aspect of life these days. Snapping an image of an endangered species thriving may be one of the first things to come to mind, but what about issues more close to home - is there a way to capture the "sacrifices" people are making as they change their lifestyles? Is there a way to capture "no impact" on film? Maybe it will help to get some inspiration from fellow TreeHuggers. It will take someone with a creative mind and a quick eye to get sustainability on film. One powerful image that can encourage citizens everywhere to take action might just be the brass ring that will win you the grand prize.
Images submitted will be saved and used for future Rainforest Alliance publications and on its website. The contest itself is a collaboration between FujiFilm and the Rainforest Alliance in an effort to raise awareness and consciousness about the idea of sustainability. Winners will be chosen in four different categories: wildlife on farms, forests or other natural habitats; landscapes; sustainable tourism; and conservation (people working to protect natural resources).
Entries are due November 1st, so you have to hurry. Finalists will be chosen by Rainforest Alliance staff and then posted on the Rainforest Alliance website for the public to vote on. Famous photographer Art Wolfe will choose the grand prize winner, which will be announced December 15th. The winner of the contest will be given a five-day, four-night rafting and eco-tour trip to Costa Rica. Plus, the grand prize winner will also receive a Fujifilm Finepix digital camera. There will also be four category winners, each of whom will receive a Fujifilm Finepix digital camera. All winners will receive one year memberships to the Rainforest Alliance. :Rainforest Alliance
