This lovely image, which underscores the many uses a designer can chose to put materials to, is a still from a video projection art piece. Called 'Under Discussion' by Allora and Cadzilla, it's one of the exhibits in Beyond Green : Toward a Sustainable Art, currently showing at the New York Museum of Arts & Design. Concluding on May 7, "this is one of the first exhibitions to focus exclusively on sustainability in art and design." Apparently green design philosophy "resonates with an emerging generation of international artists who combine a fresh aesthetic sensibility with a constructively critical approach to the production, dissemination and display of art." Artists from Chicago, Copenhagen, London, New York, San Francisco, San Juan and Vienna have participated in the event, showcasing their works ranging from the metaphoric, playful and even practical. ::Beyond Green at MAD, via Dexigner.
