So no wonder flat pack furniture designs are so popular -- they are easy to transport or store, and simpler to put together or take apart. Launching a new line of modular, flat pack cupboards and wardrobes is British designer Sam Wrigley, a recent graduate of Falmouth University in Cornwall, who created the CRISSCROSS collection as an adaptable alternative for people on the move. See how quick it is to assemble: © CRISSCROSS Wrigley, whose background is in graphic design and who developed CRISSCROSS during his last year at university, explains on Dezeen that his motivation was to rethink the flat pack industry, now dominated by giants like IKEA: Our goal is to make furniture that fits people’s lives perfectly – wherever they go. We want to take on the big boys and reinvent flat-pack furniture, because moving should be less of a headache and more exciting. © CRISSCROSS The CRISSCROSS system consists of pegboard-style panels, made out of CNC-cut, FSC-certified birch, which are connected via a removable set of brackets and locknuts, made out of high-grade, anodized aluminum. It's a bit reminiscent of a DIY model construction set, as the furniture can be easily assembled and customized without the need for tools. © CRISSCROSS © CRISSCROSS © CRISSCROSS The panels are finished in a natural, non-toxic wood wax, and can come in four colours (red, grey, black or au naturel) to add an extra lick of brightness. © CRISSCROSS © CRISSCROSS Wrigley intends to crowdfund CRISSCROSS on Kickstarter starting May 17 to bring it to market; there are also plans to fund add-ons that will increase the collection's functionality and adaptability, like hooks, mirrors, handles, towel rails. In any case, it's a promising start, and there is something endearing about the design, especially the cupboards, and we like the fact that there are pegboard holes everywhere that would allow you to add hooks to hang things on.
