Camp for Climate Action has been gaining strength as an activist organization in the United Kingdom for the past few years, calling out companies and policy makers who are negatively impacting the global climate. But just what is a climate camp, and how has this group managed to become so effective?
The organization has an interesting structure -- one that allows it to form protests all over the country. Photographer Mark Sherratt captured the beauty and hope of a climate camp event when he visited Machynlleth, a market town in Powys, Wales and the site of an August 2009 Climate Camp action to protest a coal mine and the notion of "clean" coal. The Climate Camp activity was Wales' first, and these lovely images serve as a perfect platform to show just what camping out to make a point can accomplish.
