Today on Planet 100: Earthquake Alters Time on Earth (Video)
The massive 8.8 earthquake that struck Chile last week caused considerable damage and sparked a series of tsunami's that threatened Hawaii and even parts of Japan. Now, researchers at NASA are reporting that the quake may have a long-lasting impact on the planet.Scientists believe that the Chilean quake—the seventh largest on record—may have shifted the Earth's axis by as much as three inches. The change will shorten the day by 1.26 milliseconds.
