Today on Planet 100: Climbing Kilimanjaro and Google Energy (Video)
Today, on Planet 100, celebrities climb Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise awareness about access to clean water, Google enters the energy business, and Sea Shepherd's anti-whaling ship, the Ady Gil sinks.First, celebrities including Jessica Beal and Emile Hirsch are climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise awareness about the water crisis. Glaciers on the mountain, Africa's tallest, are expected to disappear within 20 years due to global warming, which would seriously threaten the water supply of milloins.
Then, a look at Google's most recent business move: an application to the Federal Energy Commission to create its own energy utility. The company believes such a distinction will help it promote green energy and better supply its data centers with clean power.
Finally, Sea Shepherd's high-tech catamaran, the Ady Gil was rammed by a Japanese whaling vessel. The anti-whaling group was able to recover all crew members on board, but the ship itself sank in the Southern Ocean.
