TreeHugger presents Business Roundtable, an association of chief executive officers of leading U.S. companies with $4.5 trillion in annual revenues and more than 10 million employees, committed to developing innovative technologies and promoting practices that protect the environment. This is Business Roundtable's introductory guest post. Their coming posts will focus on climate change, green buildings, energy efficiency and their S.E.E. Change and Climate RESOLVE initiatives, which are explained below.
The Roundtable is dedicated to advocating public policies that ensure vigorous economic growth, a dynamic global economy, a well-trained and productive U.S. workforce and a sustainable environment.
Citing the potentially serious and far-reaching consequences of global warming for society and ecosystems, Business Roundtable CEOs called for action in a recent climate change statement to help address this global issue. Our member companies recognize the need to combine traditional corporate goals, with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and social improvement. Within recent years, we have launched two initiatives to address the environmental and social challenges facing today’s business and global communities: Climate RESOLVE (Responsible Environmental Steps, Opportunities to Lead by Voluntary Efforts), which seeks to reduce GHG emissions and improve the GHG intensity of the U.S. economy and , S.E.E Change, which encourages companies to adopt business strategies and projects that measurably improve Society, the Environment and the Economy.
We are excited about this opportunity to share the business community’s successes – and challenges – in addressing environmental issues with the Treehugger community. Our goal is to contribute to a constructive dialogue that helps us and the rest of the world move forward in the evolutionary process of sustainable growth.
