Sen. Mary Landrieu went on ABC's "Good Morning America" today to advocate for lifting the moratorium on drilling in the Gulf, this despite the fact that worst oil spill in American history continues. Landrieu, who has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the oil and gas industry over her career, said that the oil companies "employ, directly, hundreds of people and indirectly thousands." The BP oil rig disaster killed 11 rig workers.According to OpenSecrets, since she was first elected to the Senate in 1996, Landrieu has received $751,744 in donations from the oil and gas industry, which is the second-highest contributing industry. That breaks down to $53,696 per year.
Landrieu was the top congressional recipient of BP's campaign donations in the 2008 cycle, taking in $17,000. The senator has said she will not return the donations.
