How Green is Your Roof?

Temperature of a conventional-roof on a 95-degree day: 158 degrees. Temperature of a green-roof on the same day: 77 degree.

While Western Europe and Japan have been green roof leaders for a few decades now, running little green circles around the US, we're starting to catch on to the logic of living rooftops. A recent series of articles in Metropolis devote themselves to illustrating this growing trend in the States and asks, "How Green is Your City?" The issue includes a look into Silvercup Studios, a movie studio in Queens that happens to be home to the city's largest green roof; in-depth pictures of both Chicago and D.C., two cities with devoted green roof agendas; and a green roof timeline.
