UPDATE: Read Jim Kunstler's take on the article here.
A remarkable article in the Sunday New York Times follows Toll Brothers, a large farmer of McMansions, out there buying enough land to plant eighty thousand houses. Unfortunately this crop is not sustainable, is inordinately dependent on cheap fossil fuel, and sterilizes the land for any other use. Consequently they have to keep buying land, lots of it, everywhere. Some say we are due for a crop failure; taxonomically, we group this year's crop with tulip bulbs.::New York Times (may require free subscription) required background reading: ::Extraordinary Popular Delusions And The Madness Of Crowds thanks, tipster Dave
