Eco-Rally USA, a grassroots transportation group, is launching a trip across the United States aimed at helping to accelerate clean energy vehicles to become the standard for automobiles rather than the exception. The tour start on Aug 10, 2009 in Time Square and then visits 10 other major cities covering more than 3,500 miles to demonstrate sustainable technologies and fuels. It couldn't come at a better time either. With the Cash for Clunkers program giving consumers the incentive to snap up fuel-efficient cars, Tom Saat, co-founder of Eco-Rally USA, says the voyage is "the best way for people to understand that alternative fuel source vehicles are just as viable as those dependent on traditional sources".

Saat continues:

We're going to bring the technology to the people - to their schools, front yards and downtown city streets to show them how alternative fuel sources work and that they're the more sensible choice.

Cars of the Same Feather
The Eco-Rally fleet includes older converted vehicles that run on a hydrogen-gas, a Prius hybrid powered by electric & gas and a biodiesel bus fueled by peanut and vegetable oil. Once they are on the road, a 100% hydrogen vehicle is expected to join the rally.

Other stops include Cleveland, OH, Lincoln, NB, Denver, CO and Salt Lake City, UT. The rally will end in Los Angeles, CA on August 20, 2009.

Driving Goals
Ultimately, the road trip is to raise the funds needed to build greater awareness and further the development of hydrogen gas as a fuel source. Saat invites drivers all types of green cars to join them on the road at any of their stopping points.
