Darth Vader Throws His Weight Behind The Senate Climate Bill

Some enviros are not happy with the new climate and energy legislation announced this week by Sens. Kerry and Lieberman. Count Rainforest Action Network in this lot, which not only dedicated its "Greenwash of the Week" to the bill, but also called upon none other than Darth Vader himself to explain it. Watch the video to understand what I'm talking about.I have to admit that I laughed out loud at this. Darth Lieberman? The Death Star is powered by coal? EDF on the Dark Side? That's damn funny green humor, even if the subject is runaway climate change.
To be fair to the bill, it does have some positive components. It calls for a shrinking cap on carbon emissions that will result in 80 percent reductions of 2005 levels by 2050. It also sets a price floor for emissions allocations and has exceedingly strong language on transportation. Sen. Kerry himself said in a post on Grist that he knows the bill isn't perfect, but in this political climate he feels it has enough positive elements to support it. Maybe 59 of his colleagues will agree.
