Is it a warm fall, (happens all the time), climate change, or just a lousy excuse? Target reports a 4% drop in sales, and says "unseasonably warm fall hurt sales of clothing and home items." So does Limited Brands, owner of Victoria's Secret, blaming "an unusually warm fall for weaker-than-expected third-quarter profits" where one would think warm weather would encourage sales as its customers flounce around in their underwear like Elizabeth Taylor in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
The weather didn't hurt Wal-Mart at the low end or Saks at the high, so it sounds lame to us. Climate change will cause enough problems without blaming it for poor underwear sales. ::New York Times
