Aged Obama Poster Says "I´m Sorry" For Not Doing More in Copenhagen

If you've ever wondered what President Obama will look like in 2020, then here you go. If you've ever wondered what the world's carbon emissions will look like in 2020, Greenpeace and TckTckTck are hoping to improve the answer with their new advertising campaign.

Surely to be seen by thousands, the two organizations have blanketed Copenhagen's airport with large billboards featuring the aging faces of world leaders on the eve of next week's important climate change conference. The posters imagine them in 2020, rueful over their lack of action, lamenting, "I'm sorry, we could have stopped catastrophic climate change ... we didn't."

Brazil's President Lula says that he's committed to reducing carbon emissions 36.1% to 38.9% by 2020.

Russian President Medvedev has stated its goal is to reduce greenhouse gases to 25% of what it was in 1990.

President Zapatero of Spain needs to reduce his country's emissions to 15% of 1990's rate by 2012, an uphill battle considering they were 49% over that rate in 2006--Europe's worst.

President Sarkozy has stated that starting in 2010, France will become the biggest European nations to levy a carbon tax--an plan Greenpeace describes as "dramatically lacking in ambition."

Along with the billboards, Greenpeace International's Executive Director, Kumi Naidoo, has some strong words for the arriving heads of state:

If leaders like Obama, Sarkozy, Merkel and Brown don't deliver at this summit their legacy will be mass starvation, mass migration and mass famine. If that happens sorry might be the hardest word, but it won't be enough. Now is the time to act on climate in order to save our future. Not next year - and not the year after. If we want to have any chance of stopping climate chaos, global emissions must peak by 2015.

Although the images are eye-catching and entertaining, with any luck they'll add a little impetus for these key global figures to make a bold commitment to reducing carbon emissions--or, at the very least, to always put on sunblock.
