Lest you have any doubts that the planet is warming: New research in the Journal of Climate shows that the past 60 years in Australia have been the warmest in the past 1000. And to quell any doubts as to what's causing it, study lead research Dr Joelle Gergis, from the University of Melbourne:
Our study revealed that recent warming in a 1000 year context is highly unusual and cannot be explained by natural factors alone, suggesting a strong influence of human-caused climate change in the Australasian region.
Dr Gergis's conclusion is the result of examining 27 different natural climate records, such as tree rings, coral, and ice cores, and processing them 3,000 different ways "to ensure that the results were robust."
In roughly the past century, temperatures in Australia have increased 0.75°C, with each decade since 1950 becoming hotter than the preceding one.
