Four celebrity ambassadors are championing a challenge for the United Nations Environmental Programme’s World Environment Day. The theme of this year’s event is “Raise Your Voice not the Sea Level.”
Each celebrity is raising awareness about a different cause. Model Gisele Bündchen is fighting food waste, actor Don Cheadle is asking fans to power down, footballer Yaya Touré is campaigning against plastic waste and actor Ian Somerhalder is supporting greener businesses. You can learn about each of these causes at wedchallenge.com.
The UN Environmental Programme is calling for individuals and organizations to register their activities to reduce waste and mitigate climate change to honor World Environment Day Challenge. You can also share your activities with your social network using the hashtags #WorldEnvironmentDay and #WED2014.
According to the UNEP, World Environment Day “underscores that we all face similar challenges and are connected and united by a common goal: a sustainable and prosperous life for everyone on this planet. Every action, pledge, and activity counts and, when multiplied by a global chorus, becomes exponential in its impact.”
