Weather Forecast: London in 2071

Scientists have redrawn the European map in an effort to help people visualise the effects of global warming. According to the research, London's weather in 2071 will more closely resemble that of current-day Vila Real in Portugal. Vila Real has an average temperature in double figures even during winter, and sees as little as three inches of rain during the summer.

Other cities also make a move towards warmer climes, with Oslo shifting to north-eastern Spain, Berlin and Barcelona to north Africa and Rome jumping to Cyprus. Stéphane Hallegatte, who helped compile the map at the International Centre for Research on the Environment and Development in France, said, "We wanted to translate the information we get from climate models in a way that is easy to understand. It can be hard to appreciate what a three degree rise means, but people can look at this and really grasp the scale of some of the changes." ::The Guardian
