Surface Magazine: Boys and Their Toys

The January 2007 issue of Surface magazine is out now, and in addition to the usual selection of fine design, cutting-edge architecture and high fashion that graces the pages, "The Annual Men's Issue" has some select green highlights worth mentioning. Boys like their toys, a fact not lost on this issue, with the inclusion of some notable green gadgetry and technology that not only help save space, time and hassle, but the planet and its resources, too. The Moovie, an electric car being built by Peugeot, Scoot, an electric two-wheeler that classifies as a bike despite its scooter-like appearance and the ENV fuel cell bike all make an appearance in the "Simple Circuits" section (pages 138-139); though these examples are nothing new to TreeHugger, it's pretty amazing to see them sprinkled among ads for Dom Perignon, Jean Paul Gaultier and Louis Vuitton in the sophisticated, high design-oriented but not necessarily green publication. An honorable mention goes to the Clipt chair by furniture designer Jeff Miller (featured on page 73), whose understated modern design grabbed our attention; though it doesn't quite pass TreeHugger muster for materials, it can be flat-packed for easy shipping and storage. The rest of the issue is worth reading for the eye-candy, if nothing else. ::Surface magazine January 2007
