I've already raved a bit about a new hair-care product found at The Ki, so now I have to go back to the items that usually draw me to a booth at an event -- gadgets! I made a beeline for the Sun-Plugged booth when I saw the bags displayed. They have a great looking line of backpacks and messenger bags with embedded solar panels.
The Sun-Plugged bags look great, taking style and functionality seriously.
Shown above are the Max Solar backpacks, which according to Sun-Plugged produce about 4.5 watts. That equates to about 1 hour of sunlight for about 1.5 hours of cell phone talk time. The messenger bag shown up top produces 2.1 watts of power, so 1 hour of sunlight is about 1 hour of cell phone talk time.
The backpacks run around $160 each, which is a fairly average price tag for quality bags with solar charging capabilities. And the price drops with the messenger bags and totes, which have lower charging capabilities.
The bags seem to be very sturdy in construction, and since they look like "normal" backpacks, I can see these being useful for school kids as well as hikers and day-trippers.
