Yet Another Reason to Hate SUV's

suv.jpgThe British Medical Journal says that the death rate is double for pedestrians hit by SUV's over those hit by regular cars- because they are so much higher, instead of being thrown into the relatively flexible hood, the internal organs take the brunt of the load. There are also additional dangers when they back up since rear visibility is so poor. They suggest that "vehicles should have warning notices advising potential purchasers of the increased risk of severe injuries and death to pedestrians associated with these vehicles" we might add, particularly while driver is talking on the celphone and eating ramen noodles. ::BMJ Online
