Unsurprisingly, Elon Musk wants to turn the James Bond movie prop into a real submarine

Your average billionaire buys expensive toys to look at them. But the real-life Tony Stark buys them to turn them into engineering projects. A few days ago we reported that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, had bought the 'submarine' Lotus Esprit prop that was used in the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me. It doesn't actually work as a sub, but that's about to change.

It was amazing as a kid in South Africa to watch James bon in the The Spy Who Loved Me drive his Lotus Esprit off a pier, press a button and have it transform into a submarine underwater. I was disappointed to learn that it can’t actually transform.

PSFK reports that Musk wants to turn it into a real, functioning sub. I guess he's not busy enough running two complex companies and being chairman of a third one...
