Having teetered on the verge of bankruptcy, only to be rescued by a massive financial boost, the Think City Electric Car recently restarted production in Finland. And it's also been making moves into the US electric car market. So news that the company is partnering with Aerovironment to pursue demonstration and commercial projects using AV's level III fast-charge system is just the latest sign that these guys mean business. And with an 80% charge in just 15 minutes, the partnership has real potential to widen the appeal of electric cars. The news of THINK and Aerovironment's new charging partnership comes to us via those irrepressable EV enthusiasts at ElectricAid. THINK CEO Richard Canny thinks it could be a game changer:
"THINK and AeroVironment are setting a new standard for extremely quick re-charging - zero to 80 percent in just 15 minutes. This is a major leap forward for electric vehicles. The development and deployment of very-fast-charge stations will help speed the electrification of automobiles in the United States and globally."
The THINK City will officially be going on sale in the States this year with a range of more than 100 miles per full charge. The car will be chargeable via an onboard AC charger that can be coupled with a 220-volt THINK home charging station for overnight charging, or via a 110-volt current on a regular household outlet. The fast-charge system is intended as a supplementary alternative for customers, including commercial fleets, whose daily mileage requirements might mean multiple charges are necessary per day.
